The research is titled "Representation of Surabaya City in the Songs of Silampukau Band (Semiotic Analysis of Lyrics in the Album 'Dosa, Kota dan Kenangan' by Silampukau)". The purpose of this research is to understand the meaning of the lyrics in the songs "Si Pelanggan", Malam Jatuh di Surabaya, and Bola Raya" from a semiotic perspective. It aims to explore the representation of the city in these songs and examine how music can be used as a medium for representing a city. The analysis employs Roland Barthes' semiotics and utilizes Stuart Hall's theory of representation. The findings of the research indicate that the representation of Surabaya city in the three songs, "Si Pelanggan," "Malam Jatuh di Surabaya," and "Bola Raya," reveals landmarks as representations of Surabaya's identity, such as the Dolly Alley and Ahmad Yani Street in Surabaya. The lyrics also reflect the behaviors of the society, including the secondary role of religion among the city dwellers, as well as the portrayal of metropolitan aspects such as traffic congestion and rapid urban development in major cities.
